Concepts of interoperability and information exchange within the value-added network along the product development chain, as well as within the supplier and distribution networks. To this end, the modeling languages of event-driven process chain modeling (EPK) and the Entity-Relationship Model (ERM) will be introduced, and the analysis of process models will be covered. To understand the technical background, the course covers fundamental concepts and standards of data transmission, such as web services, communication protocols, and data formats. For example, the course also discusses the transmission of data via digital signals using microcontrollers as an example. Furthermore, fundamental concepts of IT systems in the field of data exchange—such as digital twins, data rooms, service-oriented architectures, and blockchains—are introduced. The lab session involves an in-depth exploration of selected topics and methods from the lecture, particularly in the areas of modeling and data exchange with microcontrollers. In addition, practical sessions will be conducted using provided Arduino boards, during which, for example, sensors will be controlled or binary-digital codes will be transmitted between microcontrollers.
