As part of the #tuHosts program, we are pleased that Prof. Susan M. Sanchez from the Naval Postgraduate School in California, USA, visited the Department of IT in Production and Logistics (ITPL) at TU Dortmund University.

Prof. Sanchez is Distinguished Professor and Co-Director of the "SEED Center for Data Farming" at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey (CA, USA). She is a world-renowned expert in the field of modeling and simulation (especially data farming), which includes production logistics as well as medical and military applications.

A public university lecture and workshop on the topic of "Women in STEM" and "A Data Farmer's Almanac" was aimed in particular at young female students and early career researchers. In a subsequent discussion, the participants were able to share their experiences with Prof. Sanchez.

The tu.Hosts program also included numerous scientific discussions and workshops. For example, a scientific workshop was held in collaboration with the ITL on various key research areas. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Christin Schumacher and Lasse Jurgeleit from the Institute of Transport Logistics (ITL).

Last but not least, it was possible to exchange ideas in numerous discussions with Prof. Sanchez in the context of her own research activities and thus, for example, to obtain valuable ideas and research impulses for one's own doctoral projects.

In addition to the scientific activities, there was also time for a working dinner and a visit to places of interest relating to the history of the Ruhr region, such as the Hansa coking plant.

We would like to thank the Graduate Center for the opportunity to invite a renowned scientist to our department as part of the tu.hosts program. Special thanks go to Dr. Benjamin Brast for his support!
