This module teaches the relevant analytical methods for analyzing logistics systems. In material flow calculation, scientifically established methods and methods commonly used in practice for determining performance in conveyor and storage systems are covered. One focus here is the calculation of the average cycle time in fully automated storage systems, such as high-bay warehouses for pallets or automated small-parts warehouses for containers. For this purpose, corresponding calculation bases are derived and optimization potentials through high-speed zones are discussed. Furthermore, methods for determining the throughput of conveyor elements, in particular of switches and mergers, are discussed. In addition, fundamentals from the field of queuing theory are taught. The analytical part concludes with various methods for the availability calculation of complex material flow systems.
