Curriculum Vitae

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Rabe was born in Tübingen in 1961. Studied physics (specializing in solid-state physics and optoelectronics) in Constance on Lake Constance, while working at the computer centers of the University of Applied Sciences in Constance and the University of Constance, initially in mainframe computer operations, then in software development projects and in user consulting and training.

1986 Transfer to the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK) in Berlin. Initially worked in the "Manufacturing Systems" department, focusing on the design and optimization of new forms of (especially flexible) manufacturing and assembly systems with intensive use of simulation. Due to the lack of availability of suitable commercial simulation programs, simulators were newly developed for this purpose. In 2002, he received his doctorate with distinction from the TU Berlin with a thesis on "Modeling layout and control rules for material flow simulation".

From 1995, Markus Rabe was head of the Corporate Logistics and Processes department, then also head of central IT at Fraunhofer IPK and a member of the institute's management board.

Markus Rabe has been Professor of IT in Production and Logistics at TU Dortmund since October 2010. The core topics of his work are IT fundamentals and the development of information technology for applications in business process engineering, plant and system planning and the control of supply networks.

Markus Rabe has worked as a consultant for numerous companies in Germany and abroad as well as teaching and training at TU Dortmund, TU Berlin, TFH Berlin, University of Konstanz, NDU HSG (University of St. Gallen) and REFA, including courses in English. He has worked as a work package leader and project manager as well as an expert in several European joint projects and has been responsible for several international conferences.
