The interface between computer science, mechanical engineering and logistics

The ITPL department has an interface function within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and was founded in October 2010. It is under the technical direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Phys. Markus Rabe. Research is conducted into solutions to problems in which forward-looking approaches to information technology are applied to tasks in logistics and production engineering. Core topics of the application are in particular modeling and simulation, with the focus on discrete-event simulation. In addition, the research fields of data analysis as well as their result representation in the production logistics environment are investigated and taught in various courses. Topics such as interoperability, project planning and project control are also within the research competencies of the department.
